AWARDS & MORE

Sarah has been the lead architect on residential projects that have won accolades at the ACT Chapter, and Newcastle Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) awards, including receiving the prestigious ACT Chapter Malcolm Moir and Heather Sutherland Award for Residential Architecture – Houses (New) twice, for Kampung Batu Bigga in 2024, and Lemon Wedge House in 2020. Both were designed by Sarah during her time at Philip Leeson Architects.

In 2019, Sarah held the position of jury chair for the ACT Chapter AIA Awards, which was a very enriching experience.

Sarah was awarded the Tafe NSW State Medal for Interior Design in 2003, upon completion of her interior design studies at the Enmore Design Centre. She was also the recipient of the Eric Parker Traveling Scholarship during her architectural studies at the University of Newcastle in 2004. This scholarship enabled her to undertake a self-directed drawing study tour through Europe, and still continues to inform her design thinking.

Sarah also undertakes a casual sessional tutor role within the architecture faculty at the University of Canberra. This fulfilling work taps in to her ongoing desire to help foster the next generation of creative thinkers in the design profession.

Design Philosophy

Sarah has intentionally diverse experience in the field of architecture. She has worked on various projects in the public and private education sector in Canberra and Tasmania (including LINC library redevelopment projects in Hobart whilst working for Luttrell Pyefinch Architects and Burgman Anglican School with CCJ Architects in Canberra) and public housing projects for ACT Housing (whilst working at Philip Leeson Architects).

Sarah has designed tailored residential projects of varying scales, including Mellow Yellow House and Gunn Street House (both whilst working for Philip Leeson Architects), which featured on ACT Solar House Day tours.

When not sitting at the drawing board, there is nothing Sarah loves more than spending time with her young family, riding her bike, scaling rocks, swimming in canyons and traversing the Australian bush on foot.
