FIRST STEPS

STA work closely with our clients during the entire architecture process, from project inception and concept design to the detailed design and documentation stages, and ultimately through the delivery of contract administration services on site.

STA exercises considered design skill, and thoughtfully interrogates client briefs, existing conditions, environmental requirements, the lived experience of our clients, as well as relevant precedents whilst developing concepts unique to each project.

We pride ourselves on our pragmatic yet creative approach to the resolution of design briefs and value clear communication and the nurturing of lasting relationships built between the client, architect and builder.

PROJECT REALISATION

Through the design development stage, as your project emerges from a hand drawn series of sketches to a CAD drafted set of plans/elevations/sections, we will facilitate the process of engaging secondary consultants with you. We recommend consultants suitable to your project and seek fee proposals on your behalf. We will also coordinate their involvement in the project for you.

We prepare a comprehensive set of documents including a written specification and detailed drawings, which will enable the calling of tenders and construction of your project.

We will manage the tender process on your behalf and act as an independent contract administrator once your project is in construction.

Let’s talk

Our clients are fantastic humans who understand the collaborative process of design! They are people who love the challenge as we do of working to a specific brief requirement, site condition, material or budget limitation, and ultimately wish us to create joyous spaces for them from interesting and potentially challenging project constraints.

If you think this might be you, please be in touch to arrange a complimentary initial project meeting, during which we can discuss with you further the range of services we will deliver.

CASE STUDY: MELLOW YELLOW – LIVED EXPERIENCE

“I would like to thank you most sincerely for the enormous amount of care and thought you have put into the design of our new home, your meticulous attention to detail and the conscientious supervision of the build. We have been incredibly lucky to have found in you an architect who has been willing to listen and respond to our quite unique requirements. You have expertly walked that fine line of meeting our practical focus and budget constraints without sacrificing the overall integrity of your design. You’ve taken into account the multiple needs of our family to give us a forever home. The house is absolutely stunning – never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would end up living in such a beautiful home.”
(Mellow Yellow House owner)

The initial stages of the Mellow Yellow House project (designed as lead architect whilst working for Philip Leeson Architects) saw Sarah visit the existing home of the clients to observe in detail how they lived, as a family with very specific needs for one of their sons who has autism. Many sessions were spent listening and taking feedback on the intricacies of how specific components of the home would be used that needed very close consideration. This included specifics such as the operation of door handles internally and externally; the need for no handles generally on joinery cabinets to discourage climbing; the use of robust materials whilst maintaining a homely and contemporary aesthetic; and the selection of mixer taps throughout that their son could use without fear of finger entrapment.
